A TONSILLECTOMY WITH LESS PAIN? IT CAN HAPPEN!

A TONSILLECTOMY WITH LESS PAIN? IT CAN HAPPEN!

For as long as most of us can remember, recovery from a tonsillectomy has been is a pretty painful ordeal.  While always tough on children, adults endure significant pain.  A new tonsillectomy procedure has been developed, called Thermal Fusion or Tissue Welding, which helps patients experience less pain, fewer post-surgical complications and have a quicker recovery.

Thermal Fusion is a unique procedure characterized by its precision.  In comparison to conventional devices that use monopolar, bipolar or ultrasonic energy, Thermal Fusion uses only direct heat and pressure. Using this technique, the tip of the surgical tool quickly and precisely cuts and seals the tissue, making it safe to use near delicate structures and reducing the healing process.

The Thermal Fusion process was pioneered by Microline Surgical, a wholly owned subsidiary of HOYA Corporation a $4 billion company headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.  Microline’s MiFusion ENTceps product line offers a broad spectrum of open and laparoscopic instruments used to seal and divide tissue utilizing proprietary Thermal Fusion technology.

A 2011 study published in the European Archives of Otorhinolaryngology found that the proprietary tissue welding technology in adult tonsillectomy patients resulted in less pain, faster recovery times and fewer complications compared with conventional surgical techniques.  This study was conducted in Finland and included 60 healthy, adult day-surgery patients, 31 of whom underwent tonsillectomies using the MiFusion technology, and 29 who had their tonsillectomies performed with a monopolar electrocautery device. The Thermal Fusion patients experienced dramatic and significant results.

Patients throughout the U.S. have been very pleased with their Thermal Fusion tonsillectomy. For example, if you click here to view this video, you will hear glowing testimony from Joanne, a mother of 3 children, whose youngest child recently had a Thermal Fusion tonsillectomy performed by Dr. Andrew Parker.

In addition to treating children with inflamed tonsils, tonsillectomies are often performed on adults to treat sleep apnea and patients having difficulty breathing or swallowing.
